George Petrou - Instructor Trainer / Explorer

The Beginning

Coming from an athletic football family and having proudly served in the 2nd Paratrooper Battalion, George Petrou possessed an innate instinct for adventure and exploration. Although without contact with the sea, Jacques Yves Cousteau's documentaries inspired him deeply. In 1986 in Mykonos, he made his first contact with scuba diving, beginning a thrilling life journey.

Training & Education

His training began with Loukas Bistarakis (NAUI) and continued with Stavros Bakandreas, to whom he owes his solid foundations. His next significant instructors were Ali Pourakbarsabet and other notable teachers in his amateur and professional training.

His career led him to the highest levels of training with international organizations: PADI, PSAI, TDI, SDI, CMAS. He trained in America, England, Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland, Egypt, with the pinnacle moment being his certification as Advanced Trimix Instructor Trainer in Hurghada by top-level instructors.

Founding Hellas Underwater Explorers

In 1995, he founded the Exploration Team and Diving School of Hellas Underwater Explorers (H.U.E). HUE pioneered educational and exploratory activities in Greece and internationally. They specialized in Technical Diving training, educated divers and instructors, and represented TDI/SDI in Greece.

Exploration Missions

George Petrou and his team participated in dozens of missions to caves, wrecks, lakes, and depths. They conducted international collaborations, produced educational materials, and contributed to establishing Technical Diving in Greece.

Their work includes missions to Sweden, Kefalonia, Crete, Vegoritis, Paros, Peloponnese, Egypt, Malta, Cyprus, as well as publications, articles, presentations, cleanups, seminars, exhibition participations, and many other activities.

Renaissance & Continuation

After a hiatus, HUE is dynamically reactivating with new and old members, with Vasilis Petroulias assisting in the renaissance of their activities. The work continues with goals of exploration, social contribution, and environmental awareness.
